Launching Google for Startup’s Scale ups and downs

Brought to you by Google for Startups UK, this panel podcast series invites founders at all stages of their journey to pick the brains of some of the most successful business leaders and experts in the UK.

In a society which rewards the “overnight success” startup, this podcast speaks to a listenership looking for candid conversations about the realities of scaling a business.

Scale Ups and Downs explores the good, the bad, and the ugly of startups, inviting founders at all stages of their journey to pick the brains of some of the most successful business leaders in the UK.
The series is hosted by Marta Krupinska, Head of Google for Startups UK, and formerly named as one of Forbes’ 30 Under 30 in the finance division.

“I’ve been a founder three times, and I’ve done the three big things that founders face: failing a startup, scaling a startup, and selling one. In my own experience, it can be unbelievably hard,” says host Marta.

Releasing with a special extended 12 minute trailer, Marta speaks to Richard Robinson, CEO of Robin AI, and Hélène Guillaume Pabis, founder and CEO of Wild AI, who both share nuggets of wisdom for founders of growing start-ups.

“Be real, that’s the best way to get help. Someone’s probably gone through something similar, or as difficult,”says Richard. “Know that other people’s perspectives also might help. You might get the feeling that because you’re a domain expert in your field, no one else can help, but actually talking to other business leaders with a completely different perspective can shift everything, which is so powerful”.

Hélène echoes this sentiment: “Vocalising often helps unlock things, and hearing experiences of other leaders who are on the same journey as you can prompt reflection. Advice can be quite patronising, but when you are able to relate with someone else it feels like a breath of fresh air, and paves a way for a new perspective.”

Drawing from the experiences of exceptional business and tech founders, Scale Ups and Downs will feature a total of 10 episodes, released bi-weekly. Episode topics include:

  • People: Hiring at pace and culture.
  • Fundraising: Value add investors and storytelling.
  • Timing: Hyped up industries and competition.
  • Mental Wellbeing: How to balance business growth and personal wellbeing.
  • Growth: How to unlock growth and revenue.
